Curtis’s back story: While we do not know the specific story behind Curtis being saved from the meat trade, we do know that his life was no doubt full of suffering and sadness. If he had not been rescued, his life would have ended very badly. Second chance has a whole new meaning for a dog rescued from a life of abject loneliness, cruel treatment, and certain painful death. When you look in his eyes you may still see some anxiety but you will also see an overwhelming desire to be safe, to be loved. Curtis is now in the midst of a transformation. As he gains confidence and his true personality comes out, he becomes more of his real self every day.

Curtis now: Curtis wins hearts wherever he goes. Described as ‘exuberant’, he is incredibly curious about everything. Even after all he has been through, he is overflowing with joie de vivre. He is also very intelligent and a super couch potato. He will never turn down a chance to snuggle and his foster family say he is relaxing more each day. He loves playing with his toys especially retrieving and has mastered some English commands such as Sit Come Up Off and Jump Up.

He likes to sleep in his crate and uses it as his ‘den’. He responds very well to routines. He seems to be fully housetrained although he has not yet asked to go out. Instead of making normal dog noises he just twirls, chasing his tail. It’s all about communication!

Although 5 years old, Curtis acts like a puppy and chews on whatever he can find. This means it is best to leave him in his ‘den’ at night and when alone. His foster family are working carefully on leaving him by himself little by little.

Curtis is super friendly with other dogs and is great on leash. He is quickly learning to share food with the other dog at his foster home. He sometimes mouths but very gently and this is improving with correction and redirection. He seems ok with cats.

“Curtis has a sparkle in his eye. He would do well with a family looking for a fun-loving and high-energy superstar who turns into the ultimate couch potato after lots of exercise. Curtis seems to have more confidence with another dog around and LOVES to play, so would be happiest in a new family that has a buddy he can play with.” (foster family)
