8/7/22
We have a very special little fellow in care who is in need of a forever foster. Sadly, he is palliative and we want him to live out his days in with the full support of our organization, but in the warmth of a family, like yours.
Would you consider hosting this special fellow until he is ready for this trip to the rainbow bridge?
We know it is a hard ask, and it is not for everyone, but it could not be any less important. Our vision is to create a world where animals can live the best life possible, and this includes end-of-life care too. Although he’s already had quite a journey through life, with a number of happy but also sad times and pitfalls, we want to ensure his last days are his best, so this needs to be an extra special family, who understands the situation they are committing to and willing to see him through to his end of days, whenever that time comes.
Dweezil is an elderly gentleman who was surrendered into our care. He has a number of ailments that are starting to stack against him but he’s not quite ready to retire just yet. Medications and supplements are still of benefit to him for the time being. His biggest challenge is his mobility, though we are seeing improvements with joint supplements and pain management. He can still do stairs although, we would like to avoid the number of trips he needs to make up or down. Leisurely strolls and sniffaris are still appreciated and he benefits from light, easy exercise. Ideally, his family can focus on him solely, with no other pets or children as he can be a little bit of a grumpy old man and wants to have relaxing golden days ahead without being bothered too much. Somewhere quiet, with squishy beds, floor mats, or carpeting to help his grip and to be showered in “good-boys” and yummy treats (although, his vet adds “in moderation”). A bungalow or main floor with a ramp to outside would be ideal.
If you think you could potentially be his forever family, please complete an application to tell us why you are the perfect fit to consider.
ABOUT DWEEZIL
A wise elderly gentleman of 12 years plus, estimated to be in his 80s of human equivalent. Mobility issues have slowed him down so his golden days are a lot of naps, especially by the AC on hot days, slow strolls around the block with lots of sniffing. He is a west highland mix and weighs in about 20-25 pounds though he could stand to shave a little off.
FROM HIS CURRENT FOSTER:
He is a sweetheart and is really easy to care for. He loves food so getting meds into him is no problem. I just hide them in his food and bang… they are gone. He goes to the door when he needs to do his business. We have established our routine so he still is able to learn and adapt easily. He loves to sleep on a blanket but mostly on the floor. He likes to walk outside and even likes to walk around in the house discovering new things. He sleeps in the living room during the night and I don’t hear him up until about 7:00.
