Profile Information Looking for a Special Adopter for a Special Dog
Benji may look like just a puppy but the vets estimate him to be around 8 years old.  He arrived from China as a scared, shut-down boy who cowered and moved away at any attempt to touch him.  It was heartbreaking to see how mistrustful he was of humans, and we can only imagine his life before coming to Canada.
Fast forward a couple of months and he is now a happy, wiggle boy who loves to be with us, loves his butt scratches, and no longer sleeps in a tight little ball.  He runs to get his harness on to go for short walks and enjoys sniffing and peeing along the way!  He greets humans and dogs alike with a sweet tail wag. This has taken months of love and patience before he learned to trust his foster family and we anticipate that it may also take time for him to adjust to his new home.  This is part of what makes him so special.  Once you have gained his trust, he becomes the most loyal sweet dog that will melt your heart.
Benji would be happy to share his new home with a friendly cat or two.  He does great with both of our cats and one of them has a huge crush on him.  We feel that he would also do well with another gentle dog.
Benji does have some medical issues his new family should be aware of.  He suffers from chronic allergies which will require lifetime management.  He will require a strict diet and any flareups will have to be addressed.  He has benefited from allergy shots.  Benji arrived with a terrible ear infection which has been treated and cleared but his new home will have to monitor for any recurrence.
We feel that Benji would do best in a quieter home with older children, he still startles at sudden movements and does not like to be restrained.  He is a medium size dog, around 40 lbs, and has longer fur which does shed and will require regular brushing to keep him looking his best.  He thrives with patient and gentle handling and is a very loving boy once he knows he can trust you.
