Meet Potato, a sweet little wire-haired terrier mix whose idea of the perfect day is a leisurely walk followed by a long, cozy nap. She’s a gentle senior looking for a home where she can enjoy life’s simple pleasures with someone who loves quiet companionship as much as she does.

Potato may be a little shy when you first meet her, but kindness quickly wins her over. She adores people of all ages, is wonderful with children, and has a soft, affectionate nature that makes her an easy companion. She’s happiest when she’s close to her person and would thrive in a home where someone is around for much of the day.

Despite being a senior, Potato still loves getting out to explore. She enjoys leisurely walks and loves stopping to sniff every interesting scent along the way. Like many senior dogs, she does have some arthritis, so while she enjoys her adventures, she can occasionally overdo it. Shorter, gentler walks and allowing her to set the pace help keep her comfortable. After an outing, she’s more than happy to curl up for a nap—especially if there’s a comfy pillow involved! She’s currently sharing one with her Great Pyrenees foster brother and thinks that’s exactly how life should be.

Potato is currently transitioning to a joint-supportive diet and has started omega-3 supplements to help support her mobility. On days when she’s more active, she may occasionally require pain medication to keep her comfortable. Because arthritis is a progressive condition, her future family should understand that she may require additional management as she ages, but with the right care, many dogs continue to enjoy an excellent quality of life for years.

Potato gets along very well with other dogs and enjoys their company, although she’ll politely let another dog know if they’re getting a little too close to her food bowl. She has not been introduced to cats, so we’re recommending a cat-free home.

She is fully house trained, crate trained, walks beautifully on leash, and will let you know when she needs to go outside. She rides wonderfully in the car and loves joining her people on errands or road trips, happily settling in for the ride (although she’d secretly prefer the passenger seat!).

Potato prefers small kibble mixed with wet food and appreciates a calm, relaxed lifestyle. A home without lots of stairs or one where she won’t be expected to climb them frequently would be ideal.
