Ava’s back story: While we do not know the specific story behind Ava being saved from the meat trade, we do know that her life was no doubt full of suffering and sadness. If she had not been rescued, her life would have ended very badly. Second chance has a whole new meaning for a dog rescued from a life of abject loneliness, cruel treatment, and certain painful death. When you look in her eyes you may still see some anxiety but you will also see an overwhelming desire to be safe, to be loved. Ava is now in the midst of a transformation. As she gains confidence and her true personality comes out, she becomes more of her real self every day.

Ava now: Ava is about 2 pounds of fur and 10 pounds of affection who is excited about nap time, couch time and lap time. She is a very enthusiastic cuddler. She is still adjusting and seems frightened of the world in general, particularly other dogs she meets outside, and weirdly, guitars. But she is becoming more confident by the hour in her foster home. She is getting comfortable with walking on a leash and housetraining is pretty much complete.

Ava is a quiet dog who doesn’t say much except to growl at some dogs. She is untested with children but seems to enjoy most humans. She is the best office dog ever as she just settles into a spot under the desk and never bothers anybody. Ava has won the hearts of everyone in her foster’s office.

Ava hasn’t learned to play yet and has not discovered the joy of treats but as her world expands and she gains confidence this will no doubt change. “She should be in a home where she is welcome on the furniture and can hang with you in your office as she always wants to be with you. The perfect constant companion.” (foster mom)
