Mcfly

Adoptable
Profile Information/tell us more about this pet McFly has had a bit of a rough start. Recently, his family dynamics changed and as a result were no longer able to keep him. We don’t think that McFly had a great deal of attention, as the family’s focus was elsewhere. Ultimately, the family decided to surrender him back to the rescue that he had been adopted from. He was part of the Back to the Future puppies in 2021.

He can be reactive to people, particularly men, and people with grey hair. When we brought him to our home, he immediately made a connection with “Mom” and our ten year old daughter. He was wary of “Dad,”. However, it took less than two days of patience, love and lots of treats for “Dad” to become his favourite. He was stressed by his recent upheaval and having a hard time coping with the associated stress but is starting to settle in.

He has become a very sweet member of our home, he loves to snuggle and curl up at the foot of the bed while we are sleeping. He is gentle with our daughter, curious and smart.

We are told that he was not used to many visitors in his former home, and it shows in how he greets people who visit our home. That being said, he’s been very quick to start learning proper greeting protocols, helped a bit by our own pup, Ryder (3yo, 90lbs). He still has learning to do, but he’s definitely willing and able to change behaviuors.

McFly and Ryder have become fast friends, playing constantly and having a blast. We do need to keep them separate for feeding time, as McFly can resource guard his food. We also encounter resource guarding when we give affection to our dog (he wants all eyes on him), but we are working to resolve this behaviour under the guidance of a trainer, and it’s making progress.

McFly was adopted during COVID into a home where the adults worked from home, and there was always someone present. We have identified that McFly has Separation Anxiety. We are working on crate training, which is going well, but the separation anxiety will require more work. That being said, there is nothing quite like a vocal, paws on greeting from McFly when you return home to make you feel loved and appreciated.

Overall, McFly is an absolutely lovely pup. With a caring and supportive home, he will have no trouble becoming the best pup and companion he can be.
